Omihi
has a mixture of limestone and marine silty clay-based soils.
Omihi Rise is Successors’ production and
winery site. Located in the region of Omihi in North Canterbury,
the thirty-hectare site owned by Dr Graeme and Lana Coles is sun
drenched with rolling hills. Omihi has its own microclimate and
produces excellent Pinot Noir.
The site was selected for its varied
topography, heat summation, and mixture of limestone and marine
silty clay-based soils. We
are developing vineyards to produce high quality, single vineyard
wines from Syrah, Viognier and Pinot Noir. The vines will be planted
at a density of between 7,000 – 8,000 plants per hectare
which will allow us to crop low, express the vineyard and maximise
our ripening and extract in these varietals. We expect the first
vintage to be 2009/10. |
